RACE 36 UPDATE

Stewart wins Nextel Cup championship!  Biffle wins race!  Roush finishes 1-2-3-4 in the race!  Gordon locks down the 11th spot for $1 million!  The 2005 racing season has come to a close.  All that remains is the Awards banquet in 10 days.  It was an exciting race at Homestead Sunday night.  Carl Edwards was doing what he had to do to have a shot at the championship.  He sat on the pole, led the most laps, but came up just a little short, finishing 4th.  The 4th place finish did move him into a tie with teammate Greg Biffle (who won the race) for 2nd place in Nextel Cup points, but the tie-breaker goes to Greg with a series high 6 wins vs Carl's 4.  It's a shame to lose a tie-breaker like that (4 wins wasn't good enough)!  Tell that to Dale, Jr.  Stewart started 20th and finished 15th to wrap up his 2nd Cup championship!  Stewart was in control the whole season.  Incredible run!!  He finishes just 35 points ahead of Biffle and Edwards!   Mark Martin rolls to a 2nd place finish at Homestead (losing to Biffle by a fender) and winds up 4th in the final standings, 105 points back.  Jimmie Johnson had the most disappointing weekend.  After starting 32nd, Johnson struggled from the start.  Moments before he would be lapped by teammate Jeff Gordon, Johnson has a tire go down.  He slides up the track and hits the wall!  He would finish 40th and drop 3 places in the final standings, to 5th, 127 points behind.  OUCH!  That's a big difference in his 2nd place finish last year, which lost him the championship by just 8 points.  The end result was the still the same however.  No Championship.  In our game, season X comes to a close.  All of our leaders stayed the same.  We had 108 different winners out of a possible 125.  Not too bad.  A lot of 1st time winners too!  You can view this on the Excel spreadsheet by clicking the Format tab (the very last sheet) at the bottom.  You can also check the web site https://nascar155.tripod.com/ for the complete list of winners and other info.  The Driver's List for Dream Team XI will be posted on the home page on Jan. 1!  Next year, we'll be making the move to the Weekly Race Updates page instead of these weekly e-mails.  Payouts for this year will begin ASAP.  If you are a $20 winner, you will be credited a play for next year automatically.  All winners, please feel free to contact me as soon as you finish reading this e-mail to verify name/address and any credits you'd like for next year.  Thanks again to all of you for making the game so much fun!  Without you, there wouldn't be a game.  Ok, here is how the Top 5 finished up.
