The NASCAR Sprint Cup Points System
Each driver who competes in a NASCAR Sprint Cup race is awarded points according to the following descending scale. Each driver that leads a lap during the race is awarded an additional 1 bonus point. The driver that leads the most laps is awarded an additional 1 bonus point. The winning driver gets 3 extra bonus points. This started with the 2011 season. The winner of the race could receive a total of 48 points...collecting the 1 + 1 + 3 bonuses.
